EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern senior Evan Eschmeyer (New Knoxville, Ohio/ New Knoxville) has been selected to the Preseason All-American Team for the 1999 John Wooden Award. The 6-11 center is one of the top 25 candidates for the honor, which is presented by the Los Angeles Athletic Club to the nation's most outstanding men's college basketball player.

"I am honored to be selected as a preseason All-American for the John Wooden Award," said Eschmeyer. "Everyone named to this team is very talented. My focus this season is to continue improving my play on the court and help Northwestern earn an NCAA tournament berth."

Eschmeyer, who will be a sixth-year senior this season, was one of only two players last year to finish among the top 15 nationally in rebounding (11th, 10.7 rpg), field goal percentage (11th, .610) and scoring (13th, 21.7 ppg). The other was Pacific's Michael Olowokandi, who became the first pick in this year's NBA draft.
