Doug Bohaboy jumps to No. 48 in men's singles.
EVANSTON, Ill. - Senior Laura Guignon (St. Louis, Mo.) and junior Katherine Nasser (Arlington Heights, Ill.) of the 23rd-ranked Northwestern University women's tennis team jumped 10 spots to claim the No. 17 national doubles ranking, released today by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
Guignon and Nasser form NU's No. 1 doubles tandem this year and currently sport a 15-5 overall record together. They have won 10 of their last 11 dual matches, including six-straight, and have led the Wildcats' rise to first place in the Big Ten with a 7-1 conference record.
Guignon (20-9) was the only female Wildcat to be ranked among the nation's top 100 singles players at No. 92.
On the men's side, senior captain Doug Bohaboy (Palo Alto, Calif.) was rewarded for his stellar play during the last few weeks with the No. 48 national singles ranking. He was previously ranked No. 69.
Bohaboy, the hottest player in the Big Ten, has improved to 7-1 in the conference while playing at the No. 1 singles spot. He is 26-12 overall this season and is currently riding a six-match winning streak wherein he has not yielded a single set.
As NU's No. 1 doubles pair, Bohaboy and Martin Bengtsson (Stockholm, Sweden) received a No. 46 ranking.
Both the men's and women's tennis teams play their final two regular season dual matches this weekend. The men (9-9, 4-4 Big Ten) are away at Michigan State and Michigan on Saturday and Sunday, playing at noon both days. The women host the same two teams, beginning each day at 10 a.m. CST, either at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center (outdoors) or the Dorothy and Carl Johnson Tennis Center (indoors), depending on the weather.
