EVANSTON, Ill. - Jerry Brown has been named defensive coordinator at Northwestern University. The announcement was made today by head coach Randy Walker. One more coaching position (running backs) remains to be filled.

Brown, 48, was a former standout for the Wildcats from 1969-71, earning All-Big Ten honors as a defensive back. He was the co-defensive coordinator during the 1997 and 1998 seasons for NU under former head coach Gary Barnett. In addition, Brown coached the defensive backs since his homecoming in 1993. Brown and his wife Denise (a 1974 Northwestern graduate) have a son Jerry (19, a freshman at Pittsburgh) and a daughter Kimberly (14).

Prior to coming to Evanston, Brown was the wide receivers (1988-89) and defensive backs coach (1990-91) for the Minnesota Vikings. Before moving to the professional ranks, he served eight seasons (1980-87) as an assistant at Cal State-Fullerton and three years at Eastern Illinois (1977-79).
