Brian Gowins Named Lou Groza Award Semifinalist

EVANSTON, Ill. - Senior placekicker Brian Gowins was named one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award given to the nation's top placekicker.
So far this season, Gowins has made 12 of 16 field goals and has made all 16 of his extra point attempts. Gowins holds many of Northwestern's all-time career scoring records including career points (244), career field goals made (53), most games making a field goal (30), most consecutive games making a field goal (nine), and most field goals of 40 yards or more (19).
The winner of the Lou Groza award will be announced on December 8, 1998 at the Sheraton West Palm Beach Hotel. Gowins was also a semifinalist in 1997.
