Bohaboy Takes First Match at NCAA Championships

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's No. 1 singles player Doug Bohaboy (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) defeated Yale's Jonathon Beardsley (7-6 (2), 6-2) in the first round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Individual Championships, being held at the University of Georgia. He advances to the Round of 32 to take on the country's No. 1-ranked college player, James Blake of Harvard on Thursday, May 27. Blake beat UNLV's Asaf Tishler (6-2, 6-3) to move into the second round.
Bohaboy and Blake met this season at the Blue-Gray Classic in Montgomery, Ala. on March 20. Bohaboy put up a tough fight before falling, 6-7 (6), 7-6 (6), 6-2.
This is Bohaboy's first appearance in the NCAA Individual Championships. This season he was named the Big Ten Sportsman of the Year and posted an 8-2 mark against conference opponents at the No. 1 singles spot.
With his win today, Bohaboy improved his season record to 29-15 and his career singles record to 107-46. He improved his career postseason record to 17-2.
