Men's Swimming Signs Five to Letters of Intent

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern men?s swimming head coach Bob Groseth announced the signing of five athletes to National Letters of Intent. The following swimmers will begin competition for the Wildcats in the 2000-01 season.
Tony Swanson (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids) is a state champion and has earned All-American honors in the 100 freestyle and the 200 individual medley.
Assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Keith MacDonald says: ?Tony is one of the top recruits in the country. He is a gifted swimmer that will make an immediate impact at the Big Ten Championships.?
Tommy Lockmann (Savoy, Ill./Champaign Centennial) is the Illinois state champion in the 500 freestyle. Lockmann was also a member of the YMCA national champion 400 freestyle relay team and garnered high school All-American honors in the 200 and 500 freestyle.
Dan Williams (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) is the Illinois state senior champion in the 200 free (1:42.5), 500 free (4:38) and 1,650 free (16:30).
MacDonald says: ?Tommy and Dan are the top middle distance swimmers in Illinois. They will battle each other for state titles this year and help us next year by replacing our three graduating freestylers.?
Mark Hamming (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) is another high school All-American.
MacDonald says: ?Mark has developed into one of the top swimmers in Illinois. He will give our team depth in the butterfly and distance freestyle events.?
Aaron McCracken (Naperville, Ill./Central) is a high school All-American and the Illinois state champion in the 100 breast.
MacDonald says: ?Aaron?s 100 breaststroke time puts him with the top five seniors in the country. He is very versatile and will be able to help us in many areas.?
