Five Wildcat Football Players Named All-Big Ten

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern University football team had five players named to the All-Big Ten teams voted on by the coaches and the media. The teams were released today by the Big Ten Conference office.

On offense, running back Damien Anderson (Wilmington, Ill./Wilmington) and tight end Jay Tant (Kettering, Ohio/Alter) were named to both teams. Anderson, a sophomore eligible who rushed for 1,128 yards this season to lead the Wildcats and finish fourth in the conference, was named second team by the media and honorable mention by the coaches. Tant, a senior who finished third on the team with 17 receptions and 203 receiving yards, was named honorable mention by both groups.

Defensively, junior defensive end Dwayne Missouri (San Antonio, Texas/Roosevelt) was a consensus second team pick after finishing tied for fourth in the conference with 20 tackles for loss. Sophomore linebacker Kevin Bentley (North Hills, Calif./Montclair Prep) ? who led the conference with 148 tackles ? was a second team pick by the media and an honorable mention selection by the coaches. Junior Harold Blackmon (Chicago, Ill./Leo) was a consensus honorable mention pick at defensive back. He set the school record with 17 pass breakups and 48 tackles. Both Bentley and Blackmon had a pair of interceptions this year as well.

Wisconsin?s Ron Dayne was a consensus choice as the Big Ten?s Offensive Player of the Year, while Penn State defensive end Courtney Brown was the consensus Defensive Player of the Year and Wisconsin quarterback Brooks Bollinger was the consensus Freshman of the Year. The media selected Minnesota?s Glen Mason as the Big Ten Coach of the Year.
