Men's Swimming Falls to Minnesota, 198-95

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Minnesota men's swimming and diving team swept every event Saturday night, defeating Northwestern, 198-95. The Big Ten dual meet was held in Minneapolis.
The loss put the Wildcats at 1-2 on the dual meet season, 0-2 in the Big Ten.
Although the 'Cats did not win any of the 17 races, there were several second-place finishes and some near misses. In the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, Elliot Massuda placed second, while Steve Steketee was second in the 100 and 200 freestyle and third in the 500 free with teammate Mike Jacob taking second. Eugene Kim nearly pulled out a win in the 100 breast, falling by .35 seconds to Minnesota's Jeff Hackler, and also fell to Hackler in the 200 breast.
Todd Capen was second in the 200 back, while Jason Merchant was second in the 100 butterfly and Steve Harms was second in the 200 IM.
Northwestern will swim next weekend, hosting Arizona State, SMU and Kansas at the Northwestern Invitational. That event will begin Friday and continue through the weekend.
