EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern head softball coach Sharon Drysdale announced the signing today of second baseman Carri Leto (El Cajon, Calif./Valhalla) to a National Letter of Intent. Leto will begin competition in the spring of 2001.

?Carri is a great addition to our program,? said Drysdale. ?She is an excellent player and will be able to contribute right away.?

Leto, one of the top prospects in the talent-laden San Diego area, was named first team All-CIF Division I (San Diego section) as well as first team all-county by the San Diego Union-Tribune and The Daily Californian. Last season, Leto led Valhalla in batting average, runs scored, triples, stolen bases, on-base percentage and slugging percentage, and helped her travelling team, the Southern California Lightning, to a fifth-place finish at the Amateur Softball Association National Championships.
