Offensive Surge Paces Men's Soccer

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University picked up its third win of the season after dominating the University of Denver at Lakeside field on Sunday, Oct. 31. Frank Lawson (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain) started the scoring halfway through the first period when he connected 10 yards out off a rebound from Doug Gibson?s (Novi, Mich./Novi) shot. Denver then answered with Chad Watts scoring off a free kick in the 41st minute of play. With just 17 seconds remaining till halftime, J.D. Wine (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) dribbled through three defenders to beat the goalie and give Northwestern a 2-1 halftime lead. Grant Trimble (Olathe, Kan./Olathe North) scored in the 68th minute of play to score the only goal of the second half by either team. David DeHorn (Troy, Mich./Troy) three the ball in where Jun Kim (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) redirected the ball to Trimble who knocked it in for his first goal of the year. Matt Keeler (Portage, Mich./Portage Northern) had two saves as the Wildcats outshot Denver 13-10.
