Northwestern has named its Athletes of the Week for October 18, based on results from Oct. 11-17.
TIM LONG (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) FOOTBALL Tim played a key role in the football team's 23-21 win over Iowa, the Wildcats' first Big Ten win in almost two years. In the first half, the junior kicked three field goals and added an extra point. He then kicked the insurance PAT with four seconds left, for a total of 11 points on the day. As a result, he was honored by the Big Ten conference as the Special Teams Player of the Week. Long's field goals were from 25, 25, and 28 yards. This season, he is 10-of-14 (71.4%) on his field goals.
JENNIFER ZAGORSKI (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) VOLLEYBALL Jennifer had an outstanding weekend, though the Wildcats lost twice. Against Michigan State Friday, she led the team with 13 kills and had a .545 hitting percentage, and then against Michigan on Saturday she had 11 more kills and came up with a season and career-best 25 digs on defense. Jennifer leads the team with 210 digs and 25 service aces, and she is second with 171 kills. In the conference, she is fourth with 210 digs and sixth with 25 service aces.
