Men's Tennis Competes at Boilermaker Classic

Members of the men's tennis team competed in the 1999 Boilermaker Classic last weekend in West Lafayette.

Freshman Josh Axler was the runnerup in the A Flight singles competition, losing in the championship match to Wisconsin's Dustin Friedman (6-2, 6-1). Freshmen Russell Bennett and Jackie Jenkins finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the A Flight singles bracket.

Jenkins and Axler also teamed up for the A Flight doubles competition and advanced to the semifinal round before falling to a duo from Wisconsin (8-6). Bennett and junior Scott Kurtis won the B Flight doubles competition, defeating Purdue's Cheng and Hays in the final (8-6).

Sophomore Joost Hol will compete in the ITA All-American Qualifier, to be held Tuesday in Austin, Texas. Jamie Sahara competed in the pre-qualifier and made it to the round of 128 before being beat by Pepperdine's Garland Aliastair (6-2, 6-4).

The Wildcats return to action as a team Oct. 23-25 when they travel to Philadelphia for the Penn Conference Classic.
