Maria Mosolova finished her time at Northwestern as the second Wildcat women’s tennis player to earn All-America honors in singles in all four years of her career. In addition, she was a four-time All-Big selection, two-time B1G Player of the Year and finished each of her seasons ranked among the nation’s top-12 singles players.
Mosolova dominated from the beginning of her career, going 41-6 as a freshman in 2007-08 and winning the Big Ten Freshman and Player of the Year awards. She advanced all the way to the NCAA singles quarterfinal round as the tournament’s No. 4 overall seed, eventually finishing the season ranked seventh nationally.
Her best season came as a sophomore when she finished the season ranked second overall in singles and was named one of four finalists for the Women’s Tennis Honda Sports Award. After winning her second-straight Big Ten Player of the Year honor, Mosolova drew the No. 1 overall seed for the NCAA Championships, but was upset in the quarterfinal.
She reached the NCAA Round of 16 in 2010 and won her first two matches as a senior in 2011 to be named an All-American in each of those seasons, as well. She finished 2010 ranked 12th in the nation and was 10th following the 2011 championship.
Mosolova concluded her career as Northwestern’s recipient of the 2011 Big Ten Medal of Honor.
