Peter Ritz joined Northwestern Athletics as the Sports Dietitian for the football program in March of 2020 after serving for the last three years as a sports dietitian at Virginia Tech. In his new role, his work is centered around helping student athletes use nutrition to fuel both athletic and academic success through individualized nutrition counseling, team education and assessment of food and supplement security.
 
Previously, Ritz served in roles with Texas A&M Performance Nutrition from 2013-2015, EXOS in 2015, and the University of Florida in 2016.  A Texas native, he earned Bachelor’s degrees in both Nutritional Science and Kinesiology at Texas A&M in 2015, and a master’s degree concentrated in Applied Nutrition and Physical Activity at Virginia Tech in 2019.
 
Ritz is a Registered Dietitian (RD) and a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) who is actively involved in the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association (CPSDA) and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. He was awarded with the 2018-2019 CPSDA Research Grant for his work entitled "The Omega-3 Status of Collegiate Athletes" which he presented in May of 2019 at the CPSDA Annual Meeting and was recently published.
