Former Wildcat standout Maggie Lyon enters her fifth season as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator with the Northwestern Univeristy women's basketball program in 2026-27. Lyon, who still ranks near the top of multiple program record boards, returned to the 'Cats after spending the 2021-22 season as an assistant coach at Loyola University Chicago.
A local product out of nearby Wilmette, Ill., Lyon etched her name in Wildcat annals during a prolific career that saw her finish with 1,693 career points, a mark that put her seventh all-time in program history. The four-time All-Big Ten Conference honoree still reigns as the program's leader in three-point field goals made, having knocked down 268 triples.
Lyon burst on the scene as a first-year in 2012-13, averaging 12.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.9 assists en route to being named Big Ten Freshman of the Year. She increased her scoring output throughout her career, putting up a career best 16.8 points per game as a senior in 2015-16. Lyon was a member of three Northwestern teams that earned postseason berths, appearing in the NCAA Tournament in 2015, in addition to WNIT trips in 2014 and 2016.
A former team captain, Lyon was also excelled in the classroom, earning three Academic All-Big Ten nods.
During her lone season on staff at Loyola, Lyon helped lead the Ramblers to an 18-12 finish that included a 10-8 ledger in Missouri Valley Conference play. The 18 wins were the most for the program since the 1988-89 campaign.
Following graduation, Lyon signed a training camp contract with the WNBA's Chicago Sky. She went on to play professionally in Spain for Unai Ferrol before spending four years in the communications and marketing department at Priority Sports and Entertainment.
