Joe Seymour
- Title:
- Special Teams Assistant
Joe Seymour enters his second season on the Northwestern staff in 2026 as the Wildcats’ special teams assistant. Seymour previously served a six-year tenure at North Dakota and worked a brief stop at Indiana State.
In 2025, Seymour helped lead the successful Wildcat punting unit. NU ranked fifth in the conference and 20th nationally in punt return defense while also posting the fifth-best punt team in the Big Ten.
On the placekicking side, All-Big Ten Honorable Mention Jack Olsen made 19-of-21 field goals in 2025. His 19 makes on the season are tied for fourth in Wildcats history, and his 90.5% field goal percentage ranks fourth in the Northwestern record book. He also went a perfect 14-of-14 from 30+ yards, making him first NU kicker to be perfect on field goals of 30-49 yards in a season since Jeff Budzien (12-12) in 2012.
Seymour joined the Northwestern program after serving as a special teams assistant at Indiana State during 2024. Prior to that, he spent six seasons at North Dakota, working with both the special teams and offensive units in a variety of roles, including as an intern and graduate assistant.
While at UND, Seymour played a key role in one of the most productive special teams units in the FCS. In 2023, North Dakota led the nation in kickoff return average (27.0 ypr), highlighted by First-Team All-Conference return specialist Luke Skokna, who notched one of UND’s two kickoff return touchdowns that season.
Seymour also helped oversee punt return units that consistently ranked among the nation’s best in blocked punts, finishing in the Top 10 in blocked punts in four of his six seasons with the program. In 2022, UND scored two touchdowns off blocked punts.
During his time in Grand Forks, Seymour contributed to North Dakota’s first Missouri Valley Football Conference Championship in Spring 2021.
A native of North Dakota, Seymour earned his bachelor’s degree in secondary education from UND in 2022 and completed his master’s degree in kinesiology in 2024.
