MISSION

The Olympic Sports Performance Department embraces the mission of both Northwestern University and the Northwestern University Athletics and Recreation Department.  In addition, it is the purpose of the Olympic Sports Performance Department to physically, mentally, and emotionally prepare the Northwestern University student-athlete to achieve high levels of performance and display the durability and adaptability necessary to handle the rigors of a collegiate athletic season.

PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy of the Northwestern University Olympic Sports Performance Department revolves around the creation of a culture which affords our student-athletes the opportunity to train at a highly sustainable level as they pursue success within their sporting venue.

It is the Olympic Sports Performance Department’s expectation that NU student-athletes will be held accountable to give their best EFFORT each and every training session.  EFFORT will be defined as Enthusiasm, Focus, Finish, Opportunity, Resiliency, and Togetherness.

Design of our student-athletes’ training programs will be based on the movements and physiological demands of their specific sport.  Strength development, power development, speed, agility, quickness, conditioning, flexibility, injury prevention, and mobility will all be emphasized each time a student-athlete trains in any of the Sports Performance Department’s venues.

Our sports performance staff will use a hands-on approach and will teach and lead in a manner that allows each student-athlete to maximize their physical potential, as well as to become educated about the importance of various exercises and techniques.  As coaches, we respect and teach the values of EFFORT and will rely on those concepts to train our student-athletes day in and day out at the highest level possible in order to assist them in meeting and exceeding their expectations and goals
