Wildcats Respond with 10-9 Comeback Win at Washington

3/29/2026 1:36:00 AM | Baseball

SEATTLE – After trailing early by as many as four runs, Northwestern scored seven unanswered en route to a 10-9 victory at Washington on Saturday night to even the weekend series.

C Shane Hofstadler went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run, delivering the game-tying three-run home run in the sixth and the go-ahead RBI single in the eighth for the 'Cats. LHP Ryan Weaver (1-3) earned the win in 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out seven. Between the fifth and ninth innings, Weaver retired 12 straight Huskies.

Northwestern (9-13-1, 3-5 Big Ten) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, plating three runs on three hits and two walks, including a pair of RBI doubles by OF Logan de Groot and INF Nick Barron.

Washington (11-15, 5-6 Big Ten) evened the game at three on a three-run homer in the bottom of the first. The Huskies took the lead with a pair in the second and stretched their lead to four with two more runs in the third.

Barron slugged his third homer of the season in the fourth inning, a solo shot to trim the Husky lead to 7-4. Barron's two RBI and three hits both match his career high, and the rookie has now tallied an RBI in 12 of 23 games this season.

In the sixth, Hofstadler equalized, mashing his first home run in a Wildcat uniform, a three-run blast to tie the game. Hofstadler stayed hot in the eighth, lining an RBI double down the left-field line to score INF Noah Ruiz and put Northwestern ahead, 8-7.

The Wildcats added a pair of insurance runs courtesy of a two-run single in the ninth by de Groot to extend the lead to 10-7. de Groot drove in a career-high four runs and notched his second multi-hit effort in the win.

In the bottom of the ninth, the hosts cut the deficit to one and put the tying run on third before Weaver capped off a strong outing with a flyout to secure the victory and even the series.

Sunday's rubber game at Husky Ballpark is set for 3 p.m. CT on B1G+.
