Northwestern looks to build off impressive indoor campaign
EVANSTON, Ill. (March 25, 2026) – Northwestern track officially kicks off the outdoor portion of its 2025-26 schedule this week. The Wildcats are slated to compete at both the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C. and the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis, Mo.
Northwestern will be represented in both the 5,000m run and 10,000m run on Friday evening at the Raleigh Relays, set to be hosted at North Carolina State University's Paul Derr Track & Field Facility. ACC Network Extra's live coverage of the meet will begin at 6 p.m. CT.
The Wildcats will begin their two-day stay at the WashU Distance Carnival on Thursday evening in the 800m run. Athletes are also slated to see action in the 1,500m run, 3,000m steeplechase, and 5,000m run in the Gateway City, with action streaming live on FloCollege.
Northwestern is just under a month removed from capping off an outstanding indoor season at the Big Ten Indoor Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. Making their first appearance at the indoor league meet since 1988, the Wildcats piled up four podium finishes across the three-day meet.
On the individual front, Northwestern was led by Skye Ellis, who surged to a fourth-place finish in the mile run in 4:40.71. Ava Criniti (15:58.40) and Maddy Whitman (16:03.35) dazzled in the 5,000m run, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively.
Prior to reaching the podium in the mile run, Ellis ran alongside Cary Drake, Anna Hightower, and Olivia Capala in the distance medley relay, where the quartet ran a red-hot 10:58.21 to claim fourth in the event.
Following the opening week of its outdoor season, Northwestern resumes action close to home at the Chicagoland Championships, April 10-11, in Elmhurst, Ill.
