EVANSTON, Ill. — No. 49 Northwestern recorded its seventh sweep of the season with a 7-0 victory over UIC on Saturday afternoon inside Combe Tennis Center. The Wildcats (11-3) are now 22-0 all-time against the Flames (6-4).
Northwestern's 11-3 record is the program's best opening to a season through 14 games since 2016. Its seven sweeps are its most in a dual season since 2023 (9).
The country's No. 70 doubles team of junior Cyrus Mahjoob and junior Ethan Schiffman prevailed, 6-2, at the No. 2 doubles spot to open the doubles point for Northwestern. At No. 1, junior Greyson Casey and sophomore Carter Pate — the ITA's No. 73 doubles pairing — moved to 10-0 on the season together by also recording a 6-2 victory. Their 10 wins are the most by a Wildcat duo since Trice Pickens and Natan Spear had 11 wins in the 2023 dual season.
Pate gave Northwestern a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles. It marked his team-best ninth win of the season. First-year Cooper Han, at No. 6, followed suit with a 6-2, 6-1 win to move to an unblemished 7-0 in singles this season. Playing as the team's No. 2, Mahjoob clinched the match for the Wildcats with a 6-2, 6-4 result.
To secure the sweep, Northwestern added wins from Casey at No. 3 (6-3, 6-3), Miller at No. 5 (6-3, 3-6, [10-4]), and Schiffman at No. 4 (7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-2)).
The Wildcats kick off their Big Ten schedule and close out their non-conference slate next weekend inside Combe Tennis Center. Action kicks off on Friday, March 6, against No. 64 Washington at 6 p.m. CT and is followed by a Sunday, March 8 doubleheader versus No. 56 Oregon and Creighton, with matches at 11 a.m. CT and 6:30 p.m. CT, respectively.
