Women's Tennis Opens Home Schedule Against UIC

EVANSTON, Ill. - After a 3-0 opening weekend on the road, Northwestern women's tennis is back in Evanston this Sunday to host local foe UIC (0-0) for a dual match at 10 a.m. CT inside Combe Tennis Center.
The 'Cats dominated their opening weekend in Virginia, beating VCU, Temple and Richmond in three days of action. Both of the first two matches finished as 7-0 sweeps, and the 'Cats won the finale 6-1.
In their collegiate dual debuts, both Northwestern first-years finished with perfect records; Margot Phanthala went 3-0 from No. 1 singles, also picking up a doubles victory alongside partner Autumn Rabjohns, while Marelie Raath won three singles matches at the No. 6 spot as part of a 6-0 overall weekend. Sophomore Maia Loureiro also finished with three wins each in singles and doubles play, while Rabjohns went 4-0 across three singles matches and one doubles match.
Sunday's dual will be the season opener for UIC, who went 17-5 last season, including a 7-1 record in the Missouri Valley. The Flames reached the NCAA Tournament to cap off their season after earning a bid with an MVC Tournament Championship.
The teams will meet for the 14th time on Sunday, with Northwestern leading the all-time series 11-2 after winning each of the last 11 meetings, all of which occurred in Evanston.
Following their match-up against the Flames, the 'Cats will hit the road again next weekend, visiting both Middle Tennessee and Vanderbilt in their second of two non-conference road trips this winter. The trip will open on Saturday, Jan. 31, when Northwestern takes on Middle Tennessee at 11 a.m. CT.
