EVANSTON, Ill. - With a 5-0 victory to start conference play, No. 1 Northwestern field hockey's Ashley Sessa has been named Big Ten Offensive Player of the week following NU's home win over Indiana.

The junior forward tallied six points with two goals and two assists, as the 'Cats collected their seventh shutout of the year. NU has now won its past three Big Ten openers and its last 10 matchups with the Hoosiers, while extending Northwestern's conference regular-season winning streak to 21 games.

Announced Monday afternoon, Sessa brings in the fourth weekly conference honor this season for the 'Cats, and her fourth career Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award. It's her first since Nov. 4, 2024, and marks two weeks in a row with NU represented in the weekly offensive awards (Ilse Tromp, Sept. 23).
Hosting Indiana, Sessa notched her pair of goals in just 53 seconds to extend NU's lead to 4-0. Sessa is the current leader for NU in points (20), assists (10), and shots on goal (14). Her performance against the Hoosiers stands as her second game of the season with two goals and two assists (Miami (OH)), and her third in which she posted multiple assists. The forward's six-point game matches her career high, earned on three other occasions.

Sessa and the 'Cats continue Big Ten competition this Friday, Oct. 3, in Iowa City, visiting the No. 9 Hawkeyes. The top-10 matchup is slated for a 5 p.m. CT start and will be streamed on B1G+.
