Mahjoob Opens Fall Tennis Season at ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. — Cyrus Mahjoob got Northwestern's 2025-26 season underway on September 20 at the ITA Men's All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
The tournament was Mahjoob's first action as a Wildcat following his transfer to Northwestern after two years at Georgia. In the first round of pre-qualifying, Mahjoob fell 6-4, 6-3 to the No. 9 seed, Washington's Soham Purohit.
Mahjoob wouldn't leave Tulsa without a win, though, as he notched his first win in purple in his consolation match. Facing Leo Lopez Linquet of Nebraska, the Rockville, Md., native dominated the first set, taking it 6-2. Mahjoob then inched by in the second set, taking it in a tiebreak to secure a 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) victory.
Northwestern's fall season continues this weekend, as the squad will split up to participate in the Notre Dame Invite in South Bend, Ind. and the Milwaukee Tennis Classic in Milwaukee, Wis. For both events, action will begin on Oct. 26 and continue through Oct. 28.
