Wildcats Prepare for 10th NCAA Championship Finals in Past 12 Seasons

CARLSBAD, Calif. – Northwestern Women's Golf will compete for one final time this season, earning a spot in the NCAA Championship Finals in Carlsbad, California, beginning Friday, May 16. The tournament marks Northwestern's 10th appearance in the past 12 seasons, including their third consecutive visit. The team has qualified for 15 straight NCAA Championships.
Last season at the Finals, the 'Cats finished tied for 11th place with a 72-hole team score of 1,182 (285-293-295-309). The performance marked the eighth Top 15 finish in program history, all of which have come under the guidance of head coach Emily Fletcher and assistant coach Beth Miller. Then first-year Ashley Yun capped off an impressive debut season with a 19th place finish to lead the team with a score of 292 (+4; 71-70-71-80).
This year's event features 54 holes of stroke play, with the top fifteen teams advancing to an additional day of stroke play. From there, the top eight teams will move on to match play, taking place Tuesday and Wednesday.
Northwestern will tee off on Friday at 3:07 p.m. CT and Saturday at 9:47 a.m. CT. Live scoring will be available online via Scoreboard. Golf Channel will have live coverage of the event on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Wildcats join the other 29 teams who advanced from their regional, including Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Cal State Fullerton, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Southern, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, LSU, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Purdue, South Carolina, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas, UCLA, UNLV, USC, Vanderbilt, Virginia, and Wake Forest.

The Wildcats return to the par-72, 6,330-yard Omni La Costa North Course, the site of last year's NCAA Championship Finals.

The Wildcats punched their ticket to the NCAA Championship Finals with a second-place finish at the NCAA Norman Regional. Yun finished in second place, earning her third Top 5 finish of the season, carding a seven-under-par 209 (69-70-70). Nguyen finished just behind her in eighth, carding five birdies in her final round to finish with a two-under 214 (73-71-70).
The 'Cats finished the event at 14-under-par with an 850 (287-278-285), a mark only bested by the country's top-ranked team, Stanford, who finished at -23 (276-284-281).
