'Cats Head to South Bend for Midweek Matchup with Irish

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern treks to South Bend for a midweek matchup when it takes on Notre Dame on Wednesday, April 8 at 4:30 p.m. CT on ACCNX.
Northwestern claimed a walk-off 5-4 victory in Sunday's series finale against Iowa. INF Ryan Kucherak delivered the walk-off single to left-center, scoring OF Preston Knott to secure the victory. The hit marks Kucherak's second walkoff of the season, after the Chandler, Ariz. native hit a walk-off double to clinch a 5-4 win over Illinois on March 21.
RHP Matthew Kouser allowed just one run in 5.0 innings, surrendering five hits, two walks, and one hit batsman, while striking out three. The first-year from Haddonfield, N.J. stranded seven Hawkeyes, including three in scoring position.
INF Trent Liolios hit his 14th home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth, putting Northwestern up 4-3. The home run brough Liolios within one of Bob Brucato's 1987 single-season program record 15 home runs. Liolios ranks second in the Big Ten and fifth nationally in home runs. Six of the Newport Beach, California native's 14 home runs have come in the eighth inning or later.
Northwestern ranks second in the Big Ten and 10th nationally in fielding percentage (.982). In 2024, Northwestern led the Big Ten and ranked 10th nationally in fielding percentage (.980).
