EVANSTON, Ill. - No. 44 Northwestern women's tennis (11-11, 4-6 B1G) closes the home portion of its schedule on Saturday with a Senior Day matchup against No. 45 Illinois in Evanston. The 69th entry into the 50-year rivalry between the two programs is set to commence at noon CT. Ahead of the match, the 'Cats will honor Britany Lau, Kiley Rabjohns and Sydney Pratt in a Senior Day ceremony, which is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. CT.
Most recently, the 'Cats split a weekend slate against No. 11 Ohio State and No. 42 Penn State. Over the two matches, Mika Dagan Fruchtman and Britany Lau went a perfect 2-0 at No. 1 doubles. The pair of victories included a top-ten upset of Luciana Perry and Teah Chavez of Ohio State, earning Lau and Dagan Fruchtman the 72nd spot in the ITA National Doubles Rankings.
Sunday's victory over Penn State was a dominant one for Northwestern: a 4-0 sweep, best characterized by Autumn Rabjohns' victory at No. 6 singles, where she didn't relinquish a single game.
The Illinois Fighting Illini (10-11, 5-5 B1G) come to Evanston for a rematch against their in-state rival. The first meeting between the two programs this season ended in a 4-2 win in favor of Illinois in January. However, the Fighting Illini enter this weekend a spot below Northwestern in the national rankings, at No. 45. Illinois' victory earlier in the season was the 13th win all-time for the Fighting Illini against the 'Cats. Northwestern has historically dominated the rivalry, with 55 wins dating back to 1975, but Illinois has won each of the last five meetings between the two programs, including their last trip to Evanston on March 10, 2023.
For the Illini, Megan Heuser and Kida Ferrari slate 81st in the national doubles rankings, with a 7-10 overall record when playing together this season. Much like Fruchtman and Lau, the pairing also upset Chavez and Perry in their most recent outing.
After facing Illinois, the 'Cats will close Big Ten play on the road, visiting Purdue and Indiana next weekend to wrap up the regular season.
