Sophomore posts his best round as a Wildcat, finishes T-7th
LA QUINTA, Calif. – Niall Shiels-Donegan was the best player on the course on Wednesday, shooting a seven-under-par 64 in his final round to help Northwestern finish in third place at The Prestige at PGA West. It is the team's fourth consecutive top-three result.
The Wildcats posted a 54-hole team score of 841 (283-281-277), finishing 11-under-par and third out of 24 schools in the team race. NU saw a 17-shot improvement over their performance at the same event last year.
The University of San Diego (-29; 281-276-266=823) dominated the competition, earning both the team and individual titles. Toreros sophomore Ryan Abuan, currently ranked no. 349, carded an 11-under-par 202 (68-69-65) to finish atop the individual leaderboard. Texas Tech (-13; 284-283-272=839) finished in second place.
Shiels-Donegan (74-69-64=207) improved every day of the tournament, which was held at the par-71, 7,185-yard Greg Norman Course at PGA West. After shooting 74 and 69 the first two days, the Mill Valley, Calif. product piled up an incredible nine birdies, shooting 64, the top round of the event, ascending into a tie for seventh place. Shiels-Donegan's showing this week bests his previous tournament finish, a mark achieved this season at the St Andrews Links Collegiate (T-8th).
Ethan Tseng also had an excellent tournament for the 'Cats. The Portland, Oregon native finished T-12th with a four-under-par 209 (70-67-72), his best finish this season, surpassing a 15th place finish at St Andrews Links Collegiate. In round two, Tseng shot eight birdies, which propelled him to his 10th Top 25 finish in his collegiate career.
Cameron Adam was the third Wildcat to finish under par at the event. The senior from Edinburgh, Scotland shot a two-under-par 211 (69-71-71), good for T-27th. Adam opened the tournament with a first round that included an eagle and five birdies.

Three Wildcats also competed as part of The Prestige's individual event, held at The Golf Club at Terra Lago in nearby Indio, Calif. Archie Finnie (71-74-75=220) and Aidan Kramer (73-75-72=220) led the trio of Wildcats, finishing four-over-par, tied for seventh. Jeremy Chen (+11; 73-80-74=227) finished T-19th.
