Northwestern seeks 5-0 start to home slate

EVANSTON, Ill. (December 2, 2025) – Following a pair of games in Florida over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Northwestern returns home to open a brief two-game homestand against Kansas on Wednesday evening. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT inside Welsh-Ryan Arena.

With a victory over the Jayhawks, Northwestern can secure its first 5-0 start to a season at home since 2021-22.

LAST TIME OUT
Northwestern split a pair of contests as part of the Elevance Health Women's Fort Myers Tip-Off, downing Abilene Christian by a 62-59 final on Friday before falling to Missouri, 85-70, in Saturday's finale in the Sunshine State.

Bolstered by a career-best 31-point showing against the Tigers, Grace Sullivan averaged 26.5 points and 11.0 rebounds across the two-game stretch. Sullivan, who became the first Wildcat since Veronica Burton to eclipse the 30-point mark, also ripped down 13 rebounds in the matchup with Missouri to secure her third double-double of the season.

Tate Lash scored a season-best 12 points in Friday's victory over Abilene Christian as part of a weekend that saw her put up 11.0 points per game and 5.5 assists per game. Tayla Thomas continued her outstanding work on the glass against the Wildcats, tearing down a game-high 12 rebounds, her fifth outing collecting 10-plus caroms in 2025-26.

Caroline Lau continued her climb up the program's leaderboard in career assists, dishing out 8.5 helpers per game to bring her career total in the category to 468, a mark that puts her eighth all-time in Wildcat annals. Lau is currently tied for the national lead in assists, averaging 8.7 assists per game.

SCOUTING KANSAS
Kansas enters the week at 6-2 overall after dropping contests to Georgia, 68-62, and Dayton, 59-58, as part of the Elevance Health Women's Fort Myers Tip-Off last week in Fort Myers, Fla. The Jayhawks were picked sixth in the Big 12 Conference Preseason Poll after finishing 16-14 (6-12 Big 12) a season ago.

11th-year head coach Brandon Schneider boasts one of the nation's top all-around threats in S'Mya Nichols. Nichols, who ranks third in the Big 12 in scoring (20.1 ppg), poured in a career-high 40 points in Kansas' matchup with Georgia last Friday. She is the first Jayhawk to reach the 40-point mark in over 40 years.

Freshman Jaliya Davis has impressed in limited action, averaging 17.1 points across three appearances. In only her second collegiate appearance, Davis put up 28 points in Kansas' 75-60 win over Northwestern State on November 9. Elle Evans also averages in double figures for Schneider's team, contributing 11.0 points per contest after being named an Honorable Mention All-Big 12 selection in 2024-25.

SERIES STUFF
Northwestern and Kansas will meet for the fifth time on Wednesday evening in an all-time series that is deadlocked at 2-2 (.500). The Wildcats and Jayhawks will clash for the third time in Welsh-Ryan Arena, where they have split the previous two encounters.

Northwestern and Kansas last met on December 20, 2018, when the Jayhawks came away with a 66-57 victory as part of the Duel in the Desert in Las Vegas, Nev. Jordan Hamilton paced the 'Cats in the defeat, finishing with 17 points.
