‘Cats Break Five School Records in Midseason Meets

EVANSTON, Ill. – The Wildcat men broke five school records as Northwestern swimming and diving closed out the fall portion of its schedule in the Texas Invitational and the Ohio State Fall Invitational.
"I was really proud of the way that our 'Cats competed in an elite level field that we know will be in the mix at NCAAs in March," director of swimming and diving Rachel Stratton-Mills said. "I'm really encouraged by the way that we continued to battle over the course of the week, and think there's a lot that we can build on in the next few months before the postseason."
Tuesday Recap
Zoe Nordmann secured a third-place finish in the women's 1650 free, finishing in 16:04.59, the third-best time in school history. Nordmann's 1000 free split of 9:42.23 was also the third-best in program history.
The men's 800 yard freestyle relay team of Joshua Staples, Stuart Seymour, Oliver Kós and Diego Nosack highlighted day one of action in Austin, with the 'Cats breaking a pair of school records in the race. Staples opened the race with a 1:33.76 leadoff leg, breaking NU's men's 200 free record. Seymour (1:33.38), Kós (1:34.18) and Nosack (1:35.16) closed out the race, clocking in at 6:16.48 to smash the previous school record (6:20.58) by over four seconds and place third in the event.

In the men's 100 fly, Seymour claimed a fourth-place finish with a time of 45.43 seconds to break another school record.
Staples continued his red-hot start to the event, breaking another school record, this time in the men's 400 IM. The Brisbane, Australia, native placed third in the event with a time of 3:40.05 to break the previous record by over two seconds (3:42.69).
In the women's 200 free, Sydney Smith delivered a strong performance, posting a time of 1:44.58, third-fastest in program history.
In Columbus, Kyle Ly and Ryan Augustine earned spots in the men's 1-meter A-Final. Ly placed 10th with a score of 322.80 and Augustine finished 11th, scoring 275.45.
Thursday Recap
Stuart Seymour continued his strong start to the meet in the 200 back, breaking his own school record with a time of 44.64 seconds.
In the women's 50 free, Lindsay Ervin earned a spot in Thursday night's A-Final, placing seventh with a time of 22.20 seconds.
NU wrapped up Thursday's swimming action with a solid showing in the men's 400 medley relay. The Wildcat quartet of Seymour, Staples, Connor Schuster, and Kós punched their ticket to NCAAs in March with an NCAA Qualifying Standard time of 3:04.80, finishing second.
In women's platform, Lydia Georgopoulou placed eighth, scoring 247.00.
Adam Cohen placed eighth (353.00) and Kyle Ly secured a 10th-place finish (324.00) in the men's 3-meter.
Friday Recap
In the men's 200 individual medley, Staples closed out a strong individual week with a sixth-place finish, posting a time of 1:42.45.
Stuart Seymour and Connor Schuster both earned spots in Friday night's men's 100 free A-Final, with Seymour placing third (42.37 seconds) and Schuster taking sixth (42.81 seconds).
David Gerchik picked up a win in the 200 back, posting a personal best time of 1:40.53 to claim the victory. Oliver Kós placed fourth in the event, clocking in at 1:41.79.
The Wildcat men closed out the Ohio State Fall Invitational strong, claiming a pair of top-six finishes in platform. Adam Cohen finished fourth (372.70) and Kyle Ly (339.65) placed sixth.
