EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's swimming and diving teams are headed to their first invitationals of the season this week. The swimmers will compete at the Texas Hall of Fame Invite while the divers take on the Ohio State Fall Invite. The competitions begin on Tuesday, Nov. 18, and continue through Friday, Nov. 21.
Most recently, the Wildcats competed against Duke, with athletes reaching personal records and top conference times. The men's team pulled out a significant 216-118 victory against the Blue Devils, while the women fell 142-192.
Sophomore Oliver Kos led the men's team to victory over Duke, winning two individual events and being part of two first-place relays. Joshua Staples and Stuart Seymour also highlighted the effort, with victories in the 200 IM for a personal best and in the 50 free for a pool record, respectively.
On the women's side, Zoe Nordmann, Sydney Smith, and Audrey Yu had accomplished outings. However, the No. 19 Blue Devil women came up with the win after earning first place in 14 events.
After the impressive showing, the Northwestern men's team earned a ranking of No. 24 from the latest College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) poll. The Wildcats' ranking is the first since January of last season, when the team also reached No. 24.
Both teams are looking to prove themselves against competitive lineups at their invitationals.
The swimmers will compete against Texas, Texas A&M, USC, Stanford, Wisconsin, and Pittsburgh in Austin, while the divers face Ohio State, Indiana, Yale, Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Louisville, Penn State, UCLA, Kentucky, and Purdue in Columbus.
At the Texas Hall of Fame Invite, five of the teams are ranked in the November CSCAA Top 25 Poll. The No. 24 men will face No. 1 Texas, No. 20 Wisconsin, No. 22 USC, and No. 25 Texas A&M, while the women, who received four votes in the poll, go up against No. 2 Texas, No. 4 Stanford, No. 12 USC, No. 17 Wisconsin, and No. 24 Texas A&M.
