Oishi wins Division I Women’s Sabre title
LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. (October 21, 2025) – Northwestern fencing returned to action close to home this past weekend, as it hosted the Remenyik ROC/RJCC at Canlan Sports in Libertyville, Ill. 16 Wildcats posted podium finishes across the two-day event, with nine placing inside the top three in their respective events.
Megumi Oishi led the charge for the 'Cats, capturing the Division I Women's Sabre title in dominant fashion. Out of Portland, Ore., Oishi stormed through pool action, winning all five of her bouts, ahead of a dominant run through the tableau that saw her victorious in all of her elimination bouts by a margin of three or more.
Oishi's showing highlighted an impressive performance by Northwestern in the weapon that saw six Wildcats place inside the top eight, a group that also included Kira Erikson (2nd), Sophia Schiminovich (3rd), Natalie Shearer (5th), Alex Chen (6th), and Elaine Lu (7th).
The Northwestern foil squad turned in a standout showing of their own in the Division I section of the weapon. Pacing the attack was Yukari Takamizawa, who cruised through pool play with an unblemished mark before adding five wins in the tableau en route to a runner-up finish.
2024-25 All-American Daphne Chan Nok Sze joined Takamizawa in the top three, placing third overall, while Karina Vasile (5th), Brianna Ho (6th), and Allison Lee (7th) also landed on the podium.
The duo of Angelica Xiong and Anna Damratoski took second and third, respectively, in the Division I Women's Epee. Xiong, who also placed fifth in the Junior Women's Epee, dazzled in her Northwestern debut, rattling off four straight upsets in the tableau, including an 8-7 win over top-seeded Anna Klimenko, on the way to a runner-up showing. Damratoski picked up four wins of her own in direct elimination to secure a spot alongside Xiong in the top three.
In the junior section of the weapon, the pairing of Hailin Chen and Natasha Lee shared third place. Both members of the duo completed a perfect sweep of their pool bouts before each tallying three wins in the tableau.
