EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern swimming and diving returns to competition on Friday and Saturday for the team's first competitions of 2025 and their final home event of the season. The program will also celebrate the seven seniors on the squad who will graduate this year. Those student-athletes include Graysen Bernard, Kenisha Gupta, Alex Ispas, Tyler Lu, Justine Murdock, Ashley Strouse and Nikki Venema.

The Wildcats will host the University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles on Friday, January 10 at 5:00 p.m. CT. On Saturday, Northwestern will welcome the University of Chicago Maroons and Penn State Nittany Lions for a three-team meet at 11:00 a.m. CT. Both events will take place at Norris Aquatics Center. Fans are encouraged to attend both days to support the 'Cats.

Live results will be available on the MeetMobile app and near real-time results will be shared on X via the team's @NUSwimDive feed.

The 'Cats have had a solid start to their season with the men's team 3-0 and the women's team 2-1.

"Our meet against the University of Southern Indiana is a great opportunity to focus on some of our shorter events, plus our relays," said director of swimming and diving Rachel Stratton-Mills. "This Friday evening meet also kicks off senior weekend and we are so excited to honor our seven seniors who will be graduating this year.

"On Saturday, we are facing both the University of Chicago and Penn State University. This is the first three-team meet of the second half of the season for us and marks the beginning of a series of upcoming competitions that lead us right into the conference championship. I'm excited to watch the team compete against both a local rival and a Big Ten conference opponent. It should be a really exciting competition and another day to celebrate our graduating seniors."

Southern Indiana
The Friday night meet is the first head-to-head meeting between the two teams. USI's men's team has participated in six events so far this season. They have wins versus IU Indy, Northern Kentucky and Valparaiso. They have dropped competitions to Bellarmine University and the University of Evansville. The team finished 4th out of 8 teams at the Indiana Intercollegiate and 5th out of 6 teams at the A3 Performance Invitational.

USI's women's team has also participated in six competitions this season. They have victories against IU Indy, Northern Kentucky, Valpo and Evansville. Their sole loss came against Bellarmine. The team finished 5th out of 9 teams at the Indiana Intercollegiate and 4th out of 7 squads at the A3 Performance Invitational.

University of Chicago
The 'Cats last faced UChicago on the road – meaning across the city – on January 13, 2023. Both NU teams won handily, 221-73 (men's) and 221-69 (women's). The Maroons' men's and women's teams have identical records this season. Both are off to a 3-0 start with wins over Lewis University, WashU and Carthage College. Both teams also won the D3 Shootout – a home event – and finished 2nd out of 7 teams at their Phoenix Fall Classic.

Penn State
NU last competed against Penn State in Evanston on January 23, 2021. Both of NU's teams won comfortably, with the men winning 247-53 and the women victorious 242-58. This season, the Nittany Lions' men's team is off to a 2-1 start with wins at Navy and versus Pitt and a loss against rival Ohio State. This past week, Penn State sent 13 squad members to compete in the TYR Pro Series - Toyota U.S. Open (December 4-7 in Greensboro, N.C.). The Nittany Lions are coming off the Ohio State Invitational, where they competed against multiple teams including OSU, Indiana and UCLA. The men's team finished in fifth place overall and the women placed seventh. Notably, Alex Karahalis broke a school record in the 200 IM during preliminaries with a time of 1:44.60.
