'Cats, Hoosiers to tip-off at 7 p.m. inside Welsh-Ryan Arena

EVANSTON, Ill. (January 7, 2025) – Northwestern (7-8, 0-4 B1G) hits the Welsh-Ryan Arena hardwood for the first time in 2025 on Wednesday evening when it hosts Indiana in a 7 p.m. tip-off.

LAST TIME OUT
A quartet of Wildcats reached double figures in scoring as Northwestern fell to No. 10/9 Ohio State by a final count of 92-62 this past Sunday inside the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio.

For the third time this season, Kyla Jones led the way for the 'Cats, putting up a team-high 15 points.  Grace Sullivan reached the 10-point plateau for the fifth time in seven games, adding 13 points.  Melannie Daley scored in double figures for a sixth straight contest, putting up 12 points and five assists, while Caileigh Walsh matched Daley on the offensive end, contributing 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Caroline Lau handed out seven assists, her 11th game this season with five-plus helpers, and matched a career high with four steals.

SCOUTING INDIANA
Coming off a hard-fought 73-62 defeat at the hands of No. 1 UCLA last Saturday, Indiana comes into Wednesday's matchup sitting at 10-4 overall and 2-1 in Big Ten Conference play. Prior to their setback against the Bruins, head coach Teri Moren's team had rattled off six straight wins.  Fresh off a fifth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament last season, Indiana owns a pair of wins over ranked foes this season, having defeated No. 24/23 Stanford, 79-66, and No. 18/17 Baylor, 73-65, during its non-conference slate.

Three-time All-Big Ten Conference honoree Yarden Garzon has led the way for Indiana through the season's first two-plus months. Garzon has scored in double figures in all but two games in 2024-25 en route to averaging a team-high 14.4 points. The 6-foot-3 guard also makes her presence felt on the defensive end, sharing the team lead in blocks (10; 0.7 bpg) and ranking second in steals (19; 1.4 spg).  Paced by just under three triples per game from Garzon, Indiana ranks fourth in the league in three pointers made per game (7.2).

Shay Ciezki (11.9 ppg) and Lilly Meister (11.4 ppg) also average in double figures for Indiana.

SERIES STUFF
Winners of five straight games against the 'Cats, Indiana owns a 45-39 lead (.536) in the all-time series between the two teams.  The Hoosiers picked up a pair of wins over Northwestern last season, dealing the Wildcats a 100-59 setback inside Assembly Hall on January 28 before completing their sweep of the season series with a 84-64 victory in the return meeting in Evanston on February 27.

Northwestern's last victory against Indiana came during the 2019-20 season, as the 'Cats rallied for a thrilling 71-69 win over the then No. 15 Hoosiers on January 16, 2020 at Assembly Hall.  Abi Scheid led a group of four Wildcats in double figures with 16 points, while Veronica Burton stuffed the stat sheet, finishing with 15 points, eight rebounds, and five steals.

UP NEXT
Following its matchup with Indiana, Northwestern ventures west to Los Angeles, Calif. for clashes with No. 1 UCLA (Jan. 12) and No. 4 USC (Jan. 15).
