Wildcats Register Home Sweep Over Northern Illinois

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern volleyball racked up 12 blocks en route to a 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-18, 25-18) against the Northern Illinois Huskies Wednesday at home at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
The out-of-conference win improved Northwestern's overall record to 1-6 on the season.
Buse Hazan finished with 12 kills on the day to lead the Wildcats offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .529. The team got nine digs from Alexa Rousseau along with eight blocks from Kennedy Hill and six rejections from Kathryn Randorf to lead them defensively.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Wildcats grabbed control on the first point and never trailed to win the first set 25-16. Northwestern led by 11 points at 22-11 before closing out the set, collecting 20 kills while only notching two attack errors along the way. Northwestern also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Northwestern built on a set-one win by earning a 25-18 victory in the second set. The Wildcats grabbed control of the set lead early on at 4-3 and never looked back. Northwestern led by as many as eight points at 24-16 before closing out the set. Northwestern's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking seven Northern Illinois attacks in the stanza and capitalizing on 11 Northern Illinois attacking errors on the way to victory.
SET 3 | Northwestern took the third set to finish the match in a 3-0 sweep. The Wildcats took control of the set early when the score was 6-5 and never looked back to win 25-18. Northwestern led by as many as 10 points at 21-11 before closing out the stanza. The Northwestern offense also got a boost from five aces in the stanza. Northwestern's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking six Northern Illinois attacks in the stanza and capitalizing on 10 Northern Illinois attacking errors on the way to victory.
