‘Cats Trek Downstate For Big Ten Preview

Northwestern set to battle six conference foes in Champaign, Ill.
EVANSTON, Ill. (September 12, 2024) – After kicking off the regular season last week, Northwestern cross country heads downstate to Champaign, Ill. on Friday for the Big Ten Conference Preview.
The women's 6k race is slated for 5 p.m. at the Orange and Blue Golf Course, which will also serve as the site of the Big Ten Conference Championships on November 1. A link to live results can be accessed above.
Northwestern will have an excellent opportunity to see how it stacks up against multiple conference foes, with host Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Purdue, Rutgers, and Wisconsin all set to be in action. Butler and Cincinnati round out the nine-team field.
The 'Cats opened the 2024 season by competing at a pair of meets last Friday. Whitney Currie led a trio of top-10 finishers at the Huskie Open in DeKalb, Ill., coming in fourth overall at 18:34.98. She was joined by Serena Frolli (7th; 18:54.17) and Mia Mraz (9th; 19:07.30), both of whom set new 5k personal bests.
Northwestern also sent a contingent to run a controlled effort at the Badger Classic in Madison, Wis. Competing at the Zimmer Championship Course, which will serve as the host of the Nuttycombe Invitational and the NCAA Cross Country Championships, Holly Smith paced a group of four 'Cats to finish inside the top 15, coming through in 21:16.5 to finish seventh in the 6k race.
