Goals from McCamy, Glassberg see No. 12 Northwestern improve to 3-0

EVANSTON, Ill. (August 30, 2024) – Collin McCamy and Tyler Glassberg scored in the waning stages of the second half to push No. 12 Northwestern (3-0) past visiting Drake (1-2) by a 2-1 final this evening at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium.

How It Happened
Following a bright start from the hosts, Drake slowly grew into the game.  Erich Legut had a pair of attempts blocked across a 3:43 span before Evan Carlson suffered a similar fate in the 17th minute.

Following a lengthy video review, the Bulldogs were awarded a penalty kick in the 21st minute after it was determined Northwestern was guilty of an errant challenge inside the 18-yard box.  Damian Segura calmly slotted home from the spot, giving Drake a 1-0 edge that it took into halftime.

Northwestern looked to force the issue early in the second half.  Akinjide Awujo put his effort wide of the near post in the 47th minute before Fritz Volmar fired narrowly high four minutes later.  Joe Suchecki took a go at goal in the 65th minute, forcing Drake goalkeeper Tomas Butkovic to make a diving stop to turn away his free kick from just outside the box.

With time ticking away, Drake was reduced to 10 men when Eskil Gjerde was sent off following a foul on the edge of the penalty area.  McCamy made the most of the opportunity, driving his left-footed blast through traffic and in at the far post to pull Northwestern level, 1-1.

Glassberg completed the Wildcats' turnaround just under five minutes following McCamy's tally.  After Italo Addimandi battled to win possession, Bryant Mayer sent a slicing ball towards the edge of the six-yard box.  Glassberg elevated to head inside the near post and put Northwestern on top, 2-1.  The sophomore's goal proved to be the game-winner, as the 'Cats completed an unblemished season-opening homestand.
