Sessa, Skubisz, Zimmer Named B1G Players to Watch

EVANSTON, Ill. β Northwestern Field Hockey proudly announces that Ashley Sessa, Annabel Skubisz, and Maddie Zimmer have been named to the Big Ten "Players to Watch" list for the upcoming season. These three standout athletes bring exceptional talent and experience to the Wildcats, making them key players to follow as the season unfolds.
Ashley Sessa, a sophomore transfer from the University of North Carolina, has already made an impact on the field. A versatile attacker, Sessa was a crucial part of UNC's undefeated season as a freshman, where she started all 21 games. Her outstanding performance earned her All-South Region and second-team All-ACC honors. With 23 points on nine goals and five assists, she was a driving force for the Tar Heels. This summer, Sessa represented the United States on the international stage, scoring a goal against Argentina in the Olympics, further showcasing her prowess and potential.
Annabel Skubisz, a graduate goalkeeper, returns to the Wildcats after a stellar 2023 season. Skubisz was named NFHCA First Team All-American and Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year, among other accolades. Her leadership and defensive skills were instrumental in Northwestern's success, highlighted by her performance in the Big Ten Tournament, where she was named MVP. Skubisz's consistency in goal was evident as she logged 10 shutouts throughout the season, including a 1-0 overtime win against #17 Boston College and a 2-0 victory over #3 Iowa.Β
Maddie Zimmer returns for her senior season as one of the most decorated players in Northwestern history. A two-time NFHCA First Team All-American, Zimmer has been a dominant force on the field since her freshman year, where she was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Zimmer's resume includes three First Team All-Big Ten selections, multiple academic honors, and a role on the United States team in Paris this summer. Her leadership and experience will be invaluable as the Wildcats aim for another successful season.
