‘Cats Clinch Berth To NCAA Women’s Golf Championships

Northwestern places fourth at NCAA East Lansing Regional to advance on
EAST LANSING, Mich. (May 8, 2024) – The Northwestern University women's golf team secured its 10th NCAA Women's Golf Championships bid in program history today as the Wildcats wrapped up play at the NCAA East Lansing Regional in East Lansing, Mich.
Northwestern posted a final-round 289 that saw it close its stay at the Forest Akers West Golf Course (par 72; 6,325 yards) with a three-under-par 861 (284-288-289), ultimately placing fourth overall to secure the program's second consecutive NCAA Championships berth. Nine of the Wildcats' 10 trips to the national meet have come under the guidance of two-time reigning Big Ten Head Coach of the Year Emily Fletcher and assistant coach Beth Miller.
USC finished atop the team leaderboard with a nine-under-par 855 (281-289-285), while Notre Dame's Lauren Beaudreau rallied to take home individual medalist honors with a 12-under-par 204 (68-69-67).
Lauryn Nguyen capped off a terrific three-day stretch in The Mitten State, posting her third straight round under par. The Seattle, Wash. native played bogey-free golf en route to a two-under-par 70 that saw her close play as part of a tie for fifth place with a five-under-par 211 (70-71-70). Nguyen now has a team-best 23 rounds at or below par to her name in 2023-24.
Jiayi Wang matched her best finish as a Wildcat, firing an even-par 72 to climb into 15th with a one-over-par 217 (72-73-72). Wang finished her day with a team-best five birdies. Jennifer Cai landed just a stroke back of Wang, carding a two-over-par 218 (70-70-78) to share 16th, her eighth top-20 finish of the season.
Ashley Yun turned in her low 18-hole performance of the week today, compiling three birdies as part of a one-under-par 71 to climb into a tie for 27th at 221 (76-74-71). One stroke behind was Jieni Li, who finished tied for 31st with a 222 (72-74-76).
