Northwestern Climbs To Second During Round Two Of NCAA East Lansing Regional

‘Cats with four inside the top 25
EAST LANSING, Mich. (May 7, 2024) – Jennifer Cai fired her second two-under-par round of 70 in as many days as the Northwestern University women's golf team moved into second place on day two of the NCAA East Lansing Regional today in East Lansing, Mich.

The 'Cats closed the day with an even-par team score of 288. Northwestern's two-day total of 572 (284-288) has the Wildcats two shots back of first-place USC (281-289=570) and one shot in front of third-place Pepperdine (283-290=573).
On the individual front, the Trojans' Bailey Shoemaker (65-71=136) owns a one-shot edge over Notre Dame's Lauren Beaudreau (68-69=137).
Cai posted her 19th round at par or better of 2023-24 to ascend into a tie for third with a four-under-par 140 (70-70). The Irvine, Calif. native piled up a team-best four birdies on the day, three of which came on the front nine.
Lauryn Nguyen joined Cai in red numbers, putting up a one-under-par 71 that has her as part of a three-way tie for fifth with a three-under-par 141 (70-71). Nguyen, who tallied three birdies, has now checked in at or below par in 10 of her last 12 rounds of action.
Jiayi Wang handed in a one-over-par 73 to move into a tie for 20th at 145 (72-73), while Jieni Li collected the Wildcats' first eagle of the week on the par-five 13th hole as part of a 74 that has her tied for 24th with a 146 (72-74). Ashley Yun is part of tie for 45th after shaving a pair of strokes off her first-round effort today, compiling a 74 to bring her 36-hole total to 150 (76-74).
Northwestern, which will advance on to next week's NCAA Women's Golf Championships with a top-five finish in the team standings, opens final-round action at the NCAA East Lansing Regional on Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. (CT). The 'Cats will be paired with top-seeded USC and Pepperdine.
