Outside hitter joins ‘Cats after spending 2023 season at Liberty

EVANSTON, Ill. (May 29, 2024) – Northwestern head volleyball coach Tim Nollan announced the addition of transfer Lily Wagner (Germantown, Wis./Germantown/Liberty) to his roster on Wednesday.  Wagner joins the 'Cats after spending the 2023 season at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. and has three seasons of eligibility remaining.

"I am very excited to welcome Lily to the Northwestern family," Nollan said.  "She is a volleyball player through and through. Lily is elite in the serve and pass game and has a deep understanding of how the game is played but, more importantly, how the game is won.  Lily grew up in a volleyball household, so being a competitor was part of everyday life.  I look forward to getting her on campus this summer and having her represent the 'Cats this fall."

Wagner appeared in 59 sets across 18 matches during her time with the Lady Flames.  The 5-foot-11 outside hitter totaled 40 kills (0.68 k/s), 11 blocks (0.19 b/s), and 119 digs (2.02 d/s) for a Liberty team that finished 15-14 overall (8-8 C-USA).  Wagner pounded out a season-best eight kills in her collegiate debut, a thrilling five-set win over High Point (Aug. 31), before adding seven spikes in a clash with Pepperdine (Sept. 10).  She dazzled on the defensive side of the net against New Mexico State (Oct. 8), registering a season-high 18 digs against the Aggies.

A native of Germantown, Wis., Wagner finished her time at Germantown High School with 1,389 career kills and 1,068 career digs.  A two-time All-State selection, she was ranked as the No. 3 recruit in the state of Wisconsin and tabbed as the No. 2 ranked outside hitter by PrepDig.com.  Shortly after finishing her playing career with the Warhawks, Wagner was tabbed a Second Team High School All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

Wagner's family is no stranger to the Big Ten Conference.  Her mother, Amy, won a Big Ten title in 1997 at Wisconsin, where she was also named an All-American.
