ANN ARBOR, Mich. - No. 34 Northwestern women's tennis kicks off their postseason as a three seed with a double-bye in the Big Ten Tournament this weekend in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The 'Cats will take on 11-seed Nebraska on Friday with an anticipated 1:00 p.m. CT first serve.
The 'Cats wrapped up the regular season with a 9-2 record in Big Ten play, putting up a dominant 18-6 overall record. Most recently, Northwestern beat Penn State 4-2 on the road last Sunday to close their dual season.
Northwestern is set to play Nebraska after the Huskers defeated both 14-seed Indiana and six-seed Maryland en route to the quarterfinals. On Wednesday, Nebraska (14-10, 3-8 B1G) kicked off the tournament winning 4-1 against the Hoosiers. They preserved their run with a 4-2 victory over the Terrapins on Thursday. The last time Northwestern faced Nebraska was March 22, when the 'Cats beat the Huskers 4-3 in Lincoln.
The Wildcats head into the tournament with the No. 59 nationally ranked duo of Justine Leong and Christina Hand. Leong individually is ranked No. 116 in singles. Northwestern finished their regular season on a good run, winning five of their last six Big Ten matchups.
Should Northwestern advance to the next round, they will be set to face either 10-seed Penn State, seven-seed Iowa, or two-seed Ohio State. First serve on their potential semifinal match is set for noon C.T. this Saturday, April 27.
