Illinois State scored one run in the top of the fourth to cut into the deficit and three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead.

Northwestern punched back with a two-run home run by Griffin Arnone in the top of the sixth to retake the lead. Illinois State tied the game at six apiece on an RBI single in the ninth, sending the game into extra innings.

In the bottom of the 10th, Trent Liolios scored Bennett Markinson on a sacrifice fly to right field to give the Wildcats the 7-6 win. Matt McClure (3-3) earned the win, surrendering one run on three hits in 2.0 innings pitched.
