LAKE CHARLES, La. – Northwestern had its three-game win streak snapped in a 1-0 loss to McNeese on Saturday, March 23 at Joe Miller Ballpark.
With both teams failing to break through over the game's first seven innings, McNeese (10-10) finally pushed one run across in the bottom of the eighth inning when
Kyle Potthoff earned the start on the mound for the Wildcats, throwing six shutout innings, surrendering three hits and three walks, while recording three punchouts. Potthoff lowers his ERA to a team-best 2.28, third-best in the Big Ten.
Garrett Shearer (1-3) came on in relief in the seventh inning, allowing one run, zero earned runs on one hit and one walk, striking out two Cowboys.
Daelan Caraway (1-0) earns the win for McNeese, tossing three no-hit innings, notching three strikeouts.
Game three of the series is slated for Sunday at 12 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
