CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Coming off a dominant home win over Wisconsin, Northwestern hits the road Thursday to face Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. Tip-off between the two teams is scheduled for 6 p.m. C.T. on B1G+.
The 'Cats (8-14, 3-8 B1G) are hot after rolling Wisconsin 69-43 last weekend at Welsh-Ryan Arena, completing a season sweep against the Badgers. The team was led by Caroline Lau, who had a perfect 9-for-9 game en route to a career-high 24 points. She became the third ever Wildcat to finish a game perfect from the floor on nine attempts or more. Lau's five assists kept her third in the Big Ten for total assists, with 126 on the season.
Northwestern is a force to be reckoned with in the paint, with three 'Cats now ranked for blocked shots in the Big Ten: Caileigh Walsh (no. 8), Paige Mott (no. 12), and Weaver (no. 22). The 'Cats' defense showed out on Sunday, as they held the Badgers to just 43 points - their lowest opponent total since Nov. 22, 2022, against Niagara.
Walsh and Mott made a massive impact on the offensive end of the court as well, both putting up double-digit scoring alongside Lau. Walsh improved the 'Cats offensively with 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Meanwhile, Mott had her third double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The 'Cats head into Champaign with a 49-37 lead in the all-time series, despite dropping each of the last three meetings between the teams. Illinois (10-11, 4-7 B1G) most recently lost in overtime to Purdue 77-72 on Monday.
After battling against their in-state rival, Northwestern will return home to Welsh-Ryan Arena to take on Purdue in their Play4Kay game. That match-up is on Wednesday, Feb. 14th at 7 p.m. CT and will be streamed on B1G+.
