Wildcats Soar to Victory, Defeat Marquette 21-3 in Sold-Out Ryan Fieldhouse

EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 4 Northwestern (2-1) handily beat Marquette (1-2) by a score of 21-3 to win their second-consecutive home match to start the season. In front of a sold-out crowd at Ryan Fieldhouse, the reigning national champions dominated their visitors in every aspect of the game. NU outshot their opponents 45-11 and won the draw control battle 17-10.    
  The Wildcats were led by the attacking duo of Madison Taylor (4 goals, 2 assists) and Dylan Amonte (4 goals, 0 assists). Izzy Scane contributed with 3 goals and 1 assist and Erin Coykendall finished with 2 goals and 4 assists.
 
How It Happened
Northwestern scored 22 seconds into the game and never looked back. By the end of the first quarter, the 'Cats were up 7-1. Northwestern went up by 10 goals with more than seven minutes left in the second quarter and the clock started running. Three Wildcats scored a hat trick in the first half: Dylan Amonte, Izzy Scane and Madison Taylor.

  • Midfielder Lindsey Frank scored 22 seconds into the game for Northwestern.
  • Junior goalkeeper Cara Nugent started her first career game.
  • Izzy Scane  is closing in on a remarkable milestone of 300 goals, currently standing at 296
  • NU's Mary Schumar, a graduate transfer from Marquette, finished the game with two goals and three assists. She holds the Golden Eagles' all-time record for assists (115) and ranks fifth all-time in points (169).
  • It is the ninth meeting all-time between Northwestern and Marquette, with the Wildcats leading the all-time series, 9-0.
  • The Wildcats have won 34 consecutive games at Ryan Fieldhouse.
  • Six 'Cats were recently named to the 2024 Tewaaraton Watch List: Erin Coykendall, Molly Laliberty, Izzy Scane, Samantha Smith, Madison Taylor and Sammy White.
  • Taylor Lapointe scored her first goal of her college career.
  • It was the largest margin of victory for the 'Cats since 03/05/2023 when the 'Cats beat Youngstown State 24-3.
