'Cats Fall 4-3 to No. 22 Vanderbilt in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Northwestern women's tennis dropped a close match-up with No. 22 Vanderbilt on the road Sunday, falling to the Commodores by a final score of 4-3.
Vanderbilt started off strong with a pair of wins during doubles. Their No. 23 duo of Anessa Lee and Celia-Belle Mohr defeated Justine Leong and Elisa Van Meeteren 6-1, then Christina Hand and Sydney Pratty fell 6-4 to Vanderbilt's pair at the number two position.
With the doubles point in hand, the Commodores picked up two of the first three singles points as well. After No. 16 Mohr withdrew from her match, giving Justine Leong a victory by retirement, Vanderbilt picked up the next two points at #5 and #4 singles.
The 'Cats captured their second point of the day at the number two position, where Maria Shusharina defeated No. 119 Lee 7-5, 6-3. Though Vanderbilt clinched the match with a No. 23 Bridget Stammel's victory at #3 singles, Sydney Pratt finished out a 6-2, 6-2 win at #6 singles to bring the final score to 4-3 in the Commodores' favor.
After nearly a month straight on the road, the 'Cats will return home to Combe Tennis Center on Friday. They'll take on Marshall at 4:30 p.m. Friday, then host Brown and NIU for a doubleheader on Sunday. Their match against the Brown Bears is set to begin at noon, and first serve against NIU is scheduled for 5:30.
