EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern Lacrosse has made a significant addition to its 2025 roster with the transfer of Delaney Sweitzer, a standout goalkeeper from Syracuse University. A graduate student, Sweitzer joins the Wildcats after a stellar collegiate career and brings high-level experience to bolster Northwestern's defense.
In her 2024 graduate season, Sweitzer started all 22 games for Syracuse, posting impressive stats with 198 saves, a 9.61 goals-against average, and a .418 save percentage. Her performances earned her a spot on the NCAA Lacrosse All-Tournament Team, recognition as a Second-Team All-ACC selection, and a place on the All-ACC Academic Team. These accolades underscore her role in leading Syracuse to another deep postseason run, and her ability to rise in high-pressure moments was crucial in Syracuse's success.
Sweitzer's dominant senior campaign in 2023 saw her named the IWLCA and ACC Goalkeeper of the Year, as well as a Honda Sports Award finalist. She was honored as a first-team All-American by the IWLCA, Inside Lacrosse, and USA Lacrosse Magazine. Over the season, she ranked seventh nationally in saves (185), while posting a .505 save percentage and a 9.20 goals-against average. Sweitzer's ability to command the crease made her a Tewaaraton Award nominee, and her impact extended beyond shot-stopping, ranking third in the nation with an average of 3.71 ground balls per game. Her senior year was highlighted by double-digit save performances in eight games, and she consistently delivered key plays in critical moments, earning four ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Before Syracuse, Sweitzer spent her first two collegiate seasons at USC, gaining valuable experience and showing flashes of her potential. At Chestnut Hill Academy in Hatfield, Pa., Sweitzer was a two-time U.S. Lacrosse High School All-American, a two-time Under Armour All-American, and was named her conference's Defensive MVP twice. Her leadership was evident early on, as she captained her high school team alongside her sister, Savannah. Throughout her high school career, Sweitzer recorded 486 saves, 84 caused turnovers, and 93 ground balls, establishing herself as one of the top goalkeepers in the country.
Now, Sweitzer brings her elite skillset and winning pedigree to Northwestern as she looks to make an immediate impact in the 2025 season.
Sweitzer's addition to the Wildcats brings not only talent but leadership and big-game experience.
"The organization as a whole is incredible," Sweitzer said. "I'm excited to learn from the best of the best and compete with the best every day. I know this place is going to push me to be the best version of myself."
As Northwestern prepares for the 2025 season, Sweitzer is poised to make an immediate impact, bolstering the Wildcats' defense with her proven track record of success at the highest level of college lacrosse.
