Wrestling Heads West for CKLV Invitational

Evanston, Ill. - Northwestern continues with its 2024-2025 schedule this weekend, heading west for the prestigious Cliff Keen Las Vegas (CKLV) Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev.
Competition inside the Las Vegas Convention Center begins Friday morning with the first whistle set for 11 a.m. CT. The tournament will continue with the evening session at 8 p.m. CT. Saturday's matches start at noon CT, with the final session of the event at 5 p.m. CT, which will showcase the first and third-place bouts.
This year's CKLV Invitational features a field of 30 teams, including 14 ranked in the latest NWCA Division I Men's Wrestling Coaches Poll. Northwestern will have the opportunity to see how it stacks up against a host of Big Ten Conference foes, with No. 4 Nebraska, No. 5 Ohio State, No. 8 Michigan, and Purdue all slated to be in attendance.
The 'Cats bring a group of nine wrestlers to the event, including five pre-seeded wrestlers. Trevor Chumbley (No. 6) enters competition at 157 lbs with sights set on a third-straight CKLV podium after finishing fifth in 2022 and seventh at last year's tournament. The graduate student is 2-0 in dual meet action this season after most recently defeating No. 23 Matty Bianchi in Northwestern's face-off with Little Rock. Also pre-seeded for the event is Maxx Mayfield (No. 8) at 165 lbs, who followed up a third-place finish at the Michigan State Open with a pair of dual-meet victories in November.
Also in the group are No. 10 Dedrick Navarro (125 lbs), No. 11 Sam Cartella at (149 lbs) and No. 12 Evan Bates (197 lbs). Full brackets will be available via FloArena closer to the event.
