Men Win All 16 Races, ‘Cats Dominate Two-Day Meet at Duke

Durham, N.C. – Northwestern wrapped up a successful two-day meet at Duke's Taishoff Aquatics Center on Saturday afternoon. After winning 10 of 16 races on Friday, the team won 11 of 16 races on Saturday to finish the meet 21-11, including winning six of eight relays. The men's team went undefeated, winning all 16 of their races. The men's team bested Duke 225.5-107.5, while the women's team were defeated 194-137. Saturday's action was broadcast on ACCNX.
"I'm incredibly proud of how the team performed these two days at Duke," said Rachel Stratton-Mills, director of swimming and diving. "They showed a lot of pride in their races while focusing on their details. We are in a really great spot right now and I'm excited for what they will do at our mid-season invite in two weeks."

Event 18: Men 200 Yard Medley Relay
'Cats take first place! David Gerchik, Tyler Lu, Cade Duncan & Stuart Seymour (1:26.99) start off their day with a win.
Event 19: Women 500 Yard Free
NU's Zoe Nordmann wins the first individual race of the morning (4:47.61).
Event 20: Men 500 Yard Free
NU's Joshua Staples with his first win of the day and third of the meet (Men 1650 Yard Free + Men 800 Yard Free Relay).
Event 22: Men 200 Yard Back
NU's David Gerchik wins the race (1:44.84), defeating Duke's Jacob Hills (1:46.22). Gerchik's second victory so far today. Earlier, he swam the first leg of the Men 200 Yard Medley Relay.
Event 24: Men 200 Yard Breast
Tyler Lu wins his first of the day and third of the meet (Men 400 Yard Medley Relay + Men 100 Yard Breast).
Event 26: Men 100 Yard Free
Cade Duncan (43.14) is locked in! He wins his second individual race of the meet (Men 50 Yard Free) and 5th overall.
Event 27: Women 100 Yard Fly
Northwestern's Nikki Venema (53.42) gets her first individual victory of the meet. She also swam the first leg in yesterday's Women 800 Yard Free Relay win.
Event 28: Men 100 Yard Fly
Northwestern's Christopher Leung (47.34) and Connor Schuster (47.96) finish 1-2.
Event 30: Men 400 Yard IM
Diego Nosack (3:51.13) wins his third individual race of the meet (Men 200 Yard Free + Men 200 Yard Fly) and fourth overall.
Event 31: Women 400 Yard Free Relay
The 'Cats sweep the final two relays!
The team of Sophie Martin, Nikki Venema, Audrey Yu & Lindsay Ervin (3:16.84) end their meet with a win.
Event 32: Men 400 Yard Free Relay
The men go 16-for-16 over the 2 days.
The final race sees Cade Duncan, Stuart Seymour, Malachi Cohen & Tyler Lu (2:55.58) take first to wrap up the meet. The team of Christopher Leung, Connor Schuster, David Gerchik & Joshua Staples (2:59.29) finished in second.
The swimming team will be back in action at the NC State Invite in Greensboro, NC, November 21-23. The diving team will compete in the Ohio State Invite in Columbus, OH, November 21-23. These will be the final competitions for the Wildcats this calendar year.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS: The next home meet for the team will take place January 10-11. On Friday, January 10 at 5:00 p.m. CT, the Wildcats will host Southern Indiana. On Saturday, January 11 at 11:00 a.m. CT, both UChicago & Penn State will travel to Evanston for a three-team meet at Norris Aquatics Center. Fans are encouraged to attend and cheer on the 'Cats.
