Northwestern Opens Postseason Friday At Big Ten Championships

Meet to air live on Big Ten Network beginning at 10:30 a.m.
EVANSTON, Ill. (October 31, 2024) – Northwestern cross country will begin its postseason journey on Friday morning when it competes at the Big Ten Conference Cross Country Championships in Champaign, Ill.
The University of Illinois will play host to this year's edition of the league meet, with the women's 6k race set to begin at 10:35 a.m. at the Orange & Blue Course. Big Ten Network will provide live coverage. Links to watch and follow live results can be accessed above.
Piloted by sixth-year head coach Jill Miller, Northwestern enters the postseason currently receiving votes in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Coaches' Poll. The Wildcats also sit third in the organization's Midwest Regional Rankings.
Most recently, the 'Cats are coming off a dominant showing at the Bradley Pink Classic back on October 18 that saw them sweep the team and individual titles in both races. Competing in the women's 6k red race, Ava Earl led a group of seven Wildcats to finish inside the top 20, running a personal-best 20:14.4 to claim individual medalist honors. Maddy Whitman checked in third at 20:22.0, a 44-second improvement from her previous top time, while Ava Criniti battled back to take finish 11th in 20:37.2, a showing that saw her named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week on October 23.
Miller's squad is no stranger to the Orange & Blue Course, a site where it won the Big Ten Preview in mid-September. Paced by Earl (3rd; 20:17.3), Holly Smith (4th; 20:20.8), and Criniti (5th; 20:32.9), all of whom finished inside the top five, the 'Cats outdistanced then No. 19 Wisconsin by 23 points for the team championship at the event.
Following the Big Ten Conference Championships, Northwestern will turn its attention towards the NCAA Midwest Regional on Friday, November 15 in Peoria, Ill.
